This bead maze stands on two solid wooden base blocks. Between them run curved, coated wires in blue, green and pink, and wooden beads glide along them: round balls in green, blue, orange and pink, alternating with wider cylinder beads.
Several of those cylinders carry pictures of animals, among them a rabbit and an owl. A child hunts for them, points at them, names them and then pushes them on round the bend. Following a loop with the fingers takes just enough steering to keep a preschooler at it.
Between the base blocks there are also two crossbars with flat coloured discs. These slide back and forth as on an abacus and make a quieter second game alongside the work up top.
Everything is fixed to the frame, so nothing goes missing and there is nothing to tidy away afterwards. That makes it a rewarding piece of toy to leave standing in the living room, or to keep at the grandparents' for when the grandchildren come.
