Press wet sand into a mould, pack it down, turn it over, lift carefully - and there stands a cupcake. This little set from the Italian maker Adriatic holds four cupcake moulds with the ribbed texture of a paper cake case, a set of loose swirl tops in different colours that clip on top, and a long-handled scoop to fill them with.
Because the tops are interchangeable, it soon turns into a shop: four cakes in a row, each with a different colour of swirl, then knocked over and started again. It works just as well in the sand at the coast as in the sandpit behind the house.
The bag is small and light enough to go in the beach bag next to the bucket and spade. The card carries the age marking 2+ and the words Made in Italy.
Good as a small gift on its own, or as an addition for a child who already has a bucket and spade and is ready for something to shape with.
