The LEGO Technic Mars Crew Exploration Rover (set 42180) is a 1,599-piece building set that lets you build a detailed exploration vehicle for a fictional Mars mission. The box shows a large rover with a cockpit for two figures, a crane, a lifting arm and a separate mini-rover that rides along as a scout.
The model is built from typical Technic parts: axles, gears and connectors rather than ordinary bricks. Parts such as the crane, the truck bed and the wheel suspension actually move, so once built the vehicle can be played with and explored again.
Expanded, the model measures approximately 44 cm long, 21 cm wide and 23 cm high. The box states an age of 11 and up, which differs from the 9-to-12 age range listed elsewhere for this product.
A great gift for a child or young builder who loves space and engineering, and who enjoys spending hours on a challenging, detailed building set.
