The LEGO Harry Potter Talking Sorting Hat (set 76429) is a building model of the famous Sorting Hat from Hogwarts, made from 561 LEGO pieces. The box also includes a battery-powered sound brick (batteries included) and a minifigure of a Harry Potter character wearing a sorting hat, for the display stand.
Once built, the hat sits on a rotating stand decorated with the crests of Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. Tap the top of the hat or place it on your head, and it randomly plays one of 31 recorded phrases - occasionally even a snippet of the Sorting Hat's song.
This is a display and building set, not a children's toy: the box states an age rating of 18+. That makes it suited to teens and adults who enjoy building the model themselves and then displaying the finished result as a collector's piece.
Thanks to its recognisable scene from the Harry Potter films and the interactive sound effect, this is a nice gift idea for a birthday or holiday, for anyone who knows the books or films and enjoys building sets.
