One board, two classics. Turn the wooden board over and you go from chess to draughts: one side is printed as a chessboard, the other as a draughts board. The matching pieces are in the box, in a light and a dark set, so neither game needs anything bought on top.
The box shows 7+ and a player icon with 2+. Chess and draughts are both games a child can grow with for years: first the rules, then a few openings, and somewhere after that the moment they beat you for the first time. A game of draughts fits into a weekday evening; a game of chess may take as long as you like.
The board is wood rather than card, and the whole thing is compact enough to leave in a cupboard or under the coffee table. The box is printed in Dutch and French.
A rewarding present for a child who is just learning chess, and at the same time the game grandparents will join in without a word of explanation.
