This building set from Clementoni's Wetenschap & Spel range delivers more than 200 parts and one clear assignment: build a monster truck with them. Balloon tyres, a high chassis and a red body - the model on the box is the first of ten.
What makes the truck interesting sits underneath. It has real steering gear and independent suspension, so the wheels turn with the steering and move separately from one another. Clementoni also names a differential and a universal joint. Whoever builds it sees the mechanism work, and that is the point of the range.
After the truck the parts come apart again: the same box supplies ten example models, and after that there is room to invent something. The packaging sums that up in three words - design, handiwork, experiment - and states 8+. Made in Italy.
A solid present for a child who would rather spend an hour tinkering with something than have it finished straight away, and who wants to know why something turns.
