Rummikub has been played at the same kitchen tables for decades, and this edition dresses the game as it was back then. The label on the sleeve says so itself: 'The Original Rummikub Game in Wooden Box'. Inside sits a wooden box with 106 tiles, two of them jokers, and the rules.
The box is more than packaging. Its four sides are turned, with metal supports, into the four racks you stand your tiles on, so there is no loose plastic to carry around. After play everything goes back into the same box.
The tiles are made of urea, a weightier plastic that sits better in the hand than ordinary plastic. You lay down runs and groups, rearrange what is already on the table, and the first player to get rid of all their tiles wins. Reckon on half an hour a game, with 2 to 4 players.
As a present this works for someone who already knows the game and is ready for a handsomer version - a birthday, a retirement, a wedding anniversary. The box is welcome to stay out on the table without anyone tidying it away.
