JOVI Air Dry is ready-to-use modelling clay that hardens as soon as you leave the finished piece out in the air. You get one 500 g block in terracotta, the reddish-brown shade of classic pottery, in a wrapper printed with the brand and the colour name.
The clay is ready to knead straight away and stays that way while you work. If it stiffens up along the way, a few drops of water make it supple again. Small hands roll it into snakes and balls; anyone further along turns pots, dishes and little figures with it. Hardening happens at room temperature and takes around 24 hours, depending on how thick the piece is.
Once dry, it can be sanded and polished, painted with poster paint or finished with varnish for a bit of shine. No oven is involved, so all of this can stay on the kitchen table or in the classroom.
A half-kilo block goes a long way and is as well spent on a rainy Wednesday afternoon as on a series of craft sessions with a group.
