Theo Klein's Bosch workbench is a play bench with a tool set of its own: 43 pieces in total. A pegboard stands at the back with the Bosch sign above it, and the saw, the hammer, the pliers and the screwdriver hang from it. A red vice sits on the top, and there is an open shelf underneath for the rest.
Children bolt the perforated strips together with the nuts and bolts, clamp their work in the vice, saw away at it and build constructions of their own. It is role play with a real action in it: turning a nut onto a bolt is an exercise in itself, and it keeps them busy for a long time.
Assembled, the bench is about 86 cm high, 57 cm wide and 37 cm deep, with the worktop at 42 cm. Everything is plastic, in Bosch green and grey, with yellow and black stripes along the edge of the top. The bench comes flat-packed and is put together at home.
This is a gift of some size, literally: put it in the playroom or in the garage next to the real work and it will be brought out for years. Enough tools come with it that nothing has to be bought to get started.
