The Creative Artist Studio from Cra-Z-Art is an art case whose entire contents are written out on the packaging: 55 oil pastels, 48 watercolour cakes, 32 chalk pastels, 24 fine line markers, 24 crayons, 18 mini markers, 17 mini coloured pencils, 4 watercolour palettes, 1 brush, 1 drawing pencil, 1 sharpener, a drawing pad and the case itself. Cra-Z-Art counts that as 250 pieces together, with the 24 pages of the pad counting as 24 items.
The pleasure of it lies in having the different techniques side by side. The oil pastels and the chalk pastels work soft and smudgy, the fine liners are for precise work, and the watercolour cakes need nothing more than a pot of water and the brush that comes with them. A child who likes to draw will be rummaging through it for a long time.
Everything sits in moulded compartments, so the case shuts after a drawing session and the colours do not roll about loose. The drawing pad measures 14.6 x 13.65 cm. The box carries an age marking of 4+, with the note that it contains a functional sharp point and that adult supervision is recommended.
Big enough to give as the main present, and the kind of set that is nowhere near used up after the first afternoon.
