A classic globe on a glossy silver-coloured base: 25 cm across, a political map with each country in its own colour and the borders drawn between them.
Switch on the light inside and a second map appears. The Earth at night comes up, with the cities as pinpricks of light. Children can see for themselves where the world is crowded and where hardly a light is burning.
Spin the globe to find whatever you are looking for. It runs on 220-240 V mains power with an E14 bulb of 2 watts maximum. The box says 7+.
It looks good on a desk or a shelf, and it is a present a seven-year-old takes to just as readily as a teenager with an atlas.
