Mecha Dragon, from the Robotics line of the Wetenschap & Spel range, is not a ready-made toy: you build the dragon yourself first, part by part. What stands there at the end is a mechanical dragon of 44 cm that walks on its legs.
Its mouth opens and closes, its wings move and its tail bends. Inside are three electric motors and two infrared sensors, and in its head sits a two-colour LED. A microphone picks up sound commands and a loudspeaker provides the sound effects.
A dedicated app goes with the dragon, with three ways to play. The box adds three verbs and explains them too: building sharpens your manual skills bit by bit, observing lets you study the principles of the movement, and interaction brings the robot to life.
A substantial gift for a child of eight or over who likes robots and dragons and is not put off by a build that takes a few hours. The box states 8+.
