Pour in sand and both wheels start turning straight away; water works just as well. The funnel on top is wide enough to aim a scoop into, which makes the pouring a good deal less frustrating for small hands.
Besides the mill, the set holds a sieve, a scoop, a rake and two moulds - six pieces in all. Enough to fill an afternoon in the sandpit or on the beach: sieving, scooping, raking, filling moulds and turning them out, and then loading the mill up again.
The mill stands 30 cm tall and is made entirely of plastic, so a bucket of water over it or a night out in the sandpit does it no harm. Adriatic is an Italian maker that has been turning out beach toys for decades.
One of those presents that belong to a first seaside holiday and that simply carry on in the sandpit afterwards.
