The net bag holds two plastic bats and one ball. The face carries a fine diamond pattern that gives the ball a little grip, and the handle is moulded from the same piece, so there is nothing on them that can work loose.
The game is as simple as it looks: two players hit the ball back and forth and try to keep it in the air as long as they can. No net is needed and no pitch has to be marked out, so it works as well on the beach as on a lawn, a playground or a quiet driveway. Keeping score is optional, but it sharpens things up.
The net bag earns its place in the beach bag: sand falls straight back out of it and the bats dry inside. In the photo the set is blue with a red ball.
A fixture in the holiday bag, light enough to take everywhere and cheap enough that nobody makes a drama of it when a bat is left behind in the sand.
