This Didak Beach kite is a butterfly, and one that genuinely looks like a butterfly: a black outline around purple upper wings and yellow-green lower wings, blue droplet markings along the edges, and in the middle a red and black striped body with two curled antennae. Spread out it measures 52 by 73 cm.
Two short tails hang from the lower wingtips, one purple and one blue. They do the work in the air: they keep the kite steady and make its movements visible, even when the wind barely picks up.
It is a single-liner, so there is nothing to steer. Give line, let it climb, and watch - the kind of kite flying a child can carry on with alone after one demonstration. At a little over half a metre it stays manageable in small hands.
Looking for a larger butterfly: Didak Beach makes the same shape as the Tropical Butterfly, in 104 by 55 cm and in 208 by 109 cm.
