At 154 by 57 cm the Redbird is the largest of the Didak Beach bird kites. The wings run in scalloped bands from red through orange to yellow, with black serrated tips at the ends and an orange-red tail fan below.
The head is padded rather than printed flat, and that is the detail that does it: up high you are not looking at a triangle with a bird on it, but at something that really does look from a distance like a bird hanging in the wind. The yellow beak juts forward, the body has depth.
It is a single-liner. A good metre and a half of span catches a fair amount of wind, so this is the kite you start with two people: one holds it, the other walks out with the line. Once it is up, it does the work itself.
The same range holds the black Swallow of 55 by 90 cm and the small Little Seagull of 50 by 18 cm, both a good deal more manageable if you want something for smaller hands.
