The landscape is a moulded piece of plastic: grey rocks with an orange lava flow between them, hollows and ledges, and two open beds high up in the rocks.
With the cornstarch and the colouring supplied, your child first mixes the swamp itself. The mixture behaves oddly: push it fast and it feels solid, leave it alone and it flows out again. Clementoni calls that a non-Newtonian fluid, and it is the chemistry part of the set.
Peat and seeds then go into the two beds. Sow, water, wait - given time the swamp really does turn green, and that green keeps growing as long as it is looked after. Clementoni accordingly describes the set as a combination of palaeontology, chemistry and botany.
