The Shopping Center cash register from Theo Klein is a toy till for role play. The front panel carries number keys, calculation keys and ten product pictures (vegetables, bread, drinks, sweets) that children ring items up with. The register adds the amounts together.
With it come a red hand scanner on a cord, a separate card terminal with its own little keypad, a weighing surface and a cash drawer. The set includes euro play money in notes and coins and a Shopping Center bank card, so customers can pay in cash or by card. The scanner and the weighing surface give light and sound effects.
That makes a complete shop game: one child plays shopkeeper, the other customer, the groceries are scanned one by one, the drawer springs open and the change is counted out. It is arithmetic practice that does not feel like arithmetic practice.
The register runs on three AA batteries, which are not included. Theo Klein gives the age as from 3 years. It is a gift that gets played with for a long time: playing shop stays interesting for years, and the register fits alongside a toy shop or play kitchen already in the house.
