Nine pieces of fruit lie ready in a wooden board: apple, lemon, pear, orange, kiwi, strawberry, pineapple, peach and watermelon. Each piece is made of two halves joined by hook-and-loop tape, and with the wooden knife supplied your child cuts them one at a time.
The board works both ways. One side is a flat chopping board, the other has recesses where every piece of fruit has its own place - that is where the cutting game becomes a shape puzzle.
Classic World gives 20 pieces, 24 x 24 x 2.5 cm and an age from 18 months. The cutting itself asks two hands to work together: hold, aim, push through. Meanwhile your toddler sees what a kiwi or a peach looks like inside and learns the names that go with them.
Good next to a play kitchen, or next to the cutting vegetables from the same range. A gift for a first or second birthday that still does duty as a puzzle later on.
